Fill Your Own Cup First: Why Self-Care Isn't Selfish
Have you ever noticed how easily we take care of everyone else? Our families, our friends, our work, our parents, our children. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we forget one very important person: ourselves.
Filling your own cup does not mean becoming selfish. It does not mean you stop caring for the people you love, or that you put yourself above everyone else. It means remembering that you matter too. Paying attention to your physical health. Looking after your mental and emotional well-being. Making time for the things that bring you joy. Having conversations with yourself. And sometimes, simply giving yourself permission to stop.
We often think rest has to be earned: I'll rest when everything is finished. But everything is never finished. There will always be another responsibility, another person who needs you, another reason to postpone yourself.
In this first episode of Fill Your Own Cup, Sangeeta Maheshwari shares the question that changed something in her, and a ten-minute exercise you can do today. Because you cannot pour endlessly from an empty cup.
